Shahrzad on Rocks

Negin Ehtesabian

Water and ink on rocks

2009

Everyone imagines and draws their imaginary Shahrzad to create a series of Shahrzad as a symbol of peaceful dialogue. Shahrzad can be the Symbol of a peaceful dialogue overcoming evil. It’s the symbol of a nonviolent fight against war and killing. I believe Shahrzad is the beautiful symbol of the power of dialogue and therefore, repeating its image is like repeating a magic formula; some kind of peace praying ceremony. The repetition of Shahrzad by artists can be regarded as an action of ambition and desire for peace. As a result, we decided to draw Shahrzad many ways, considering being simple and quick in our performance.
